English at the Aldea

Our teacher has proposed us some interesting ideas about English teaching. First of all, we have to overcome our shortcomings in the knowledge of grammar and linguistics in general, not only in english, but mostly in Spanish, our mother tongue. Then, we should learn to use the dictionary, not only to search the meaning of the words, but also as an aid to understand the classes of words. This is a great help for analysing sentences. We have been given two very basic rules of thumb: 1) in English, adjectives usually precede nouns, and 2) when analysing any sentence, the first thing to do is to look for the verb. Later, we move on to read simple texts, applying the two basic rules. In the next stage, we are ready to read more complex texts. Our aim is to be able to read material related with our specialty.
